Best Comfort Foods and Drinks
By Calgarz
Experience bliss through what you eat.
Whether its a classic case of "..all work and no play..", a demanding boss, endless meetings, or hormonal fluctuations, a down time in our lives is just normal. There are just those days when nothing goes our way...or perhaps some things go our way alright but we just want to simply unwind, relax and leave our worries behind. What to do?
Sometimes, all it takes is a break and a well-deserved treat. So if you're feeling upset or depressed, you can find a bit of bliss by eating and drinking some of the world's best comfort foods. Here's my list.
1. Lindt Extra Fine White Chocolate
White chocolate is great enough. But having the extra fine version that Lindt has is a hundred times better and not to mention, sheer bliss. There's just something really comforting about silky, creamy white chocolate. Best eaten alone.
2. Rocky road ice cream
Okay, so you're going through tough times and "rocky road" may be too much to even think about right now. Actually, this chocolate icecream is so wholesome, it'll make you smile. The perfect blend of chunky nuts, pillow soft marshmallow, and bittersweet chocolate icecream makes a good best friend during not-so-good-days.
3. Freshly baked cheese pizza
Whoever invented this food is a genius. There is something absolutely delightful and mouthwatering about the aroma of freshly baked dough and the smoky aroma of melted cheese in pizza that'll make you forget all about your worries ( and even your name). So whenever you feel that everything seems to be going downhill, order a pizza.
4. Sansrival
Sansrival (without rival in french) is a pastry-cake made from praline, cashews, and buttercream icing. It is a mixture of crunchy, chewy, and creamy texture and is surely worth all the calories it may have. Perfect with tea.
5. Frozen yogurt loaded with toppings
Oh goodness! This stuff is so good, I wouldn't mind eating it everyday. Growing up in a tropical country, I have a soft spot for cold treats. So when my blood pressure raises and my temperature is near boiling because someone got me upset, I head to the nearest frozen yogurt store. The plus? This is healthy and light too.
6. Hot Chocolate
When my mom makes hot chocolate, the whole house is filled with that delightful, warm, and lingering chocolate aroma. That's just the beginning. This warm, rich, and delicious drink is a delight to one's taste buds.
7. Earl Grey Tea
Earl grey tea is a fragrant tea blend that is made unique by the presence of bergamot oil. The scent of the bergamot renders a citrusy, limey, vibrant taste to this comforting tea. Great to have especially in the afternoon. As you sip, breathe in the aroma of bergamot to uplift and revitalize your soul. Perfect with ginger cookies.
8. Taro shake
Taro is a root crop that is used in desserts. It has a texture similar to yam and sweet potatoes. Some deli offers taro shake which is slightly lavender in color. It usually has a mild, sweet taste and it is very refreshing.
9. Strawberry dipped in melted chocolate
Whenever I'm down, I am extra lavish on my self. If I happen to find some fresh strawberries, i get some milk chocolate from the fridge, melt some, then dip the luscious red, berries onto the chocolate. Believe me, it's simply electrifying.
10. Dimsum
Dimsum litearlly means "heart's delight". They are indeed. I noticed that eating dimsum when I'm not feeling so happy feels like a sweet revenge. A wonderful, yummy outlet. Make sure to load in on the chilli. The better you feel the heat, it is as if you're letting off some steam as well.
